How it works

Learn more.
Review less.

Combine the power of mnemonic devices and FSRS (a machine learning model) to spend more time learning words and less time reviewing them.

up to 25 new words per day

Review

Quiz on all of your learned words. The review scheduler runs FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler), a model perfectly tuned to surface words for review right before you forget them.

There's no fixed schedule for any word. Each one has its own review timeline, based on how well you remember it. Some words are easy and others... not so much.

The FSRS system

Burn this language up.

Every word must go through all nine stages. Get one right, it climbs; wrong, it slides back. Reach burned and it's yours forever.

A memory model, not a timer

Our scheduler runs FSRS, a machine-learning memory model fitted on real learner reviews. It predicts when you're about to forget each word and books the review just before — hours for a new word, months once it's locked in.

Smart mistake handling

Fat-finger a letter? We don't punish typos. If your answer is within one edit of correct — a swapped, dropped, or extra letter — it still counts.

within one typo · still counts

Burned forever

Hit stage 9 (burned) and the word is yours forever. It won't resurface in your reviews, but you can still search for it and see it in your burned list.

off your queue for good
Every word, made memorable

Korean is hard.
Weird stories make it stick.

Your brain remembers stories and images far faster than rote repetition. So every unique word ships with a hand-written hook tuned for English speakers — sound, shape, and meaning in one image, wired back to the words and hanja you already know.

The mirror answered that Snow White was the prettiest in all the world.

  • ✓
Sound + meaning. Mnemonics encode both, linking sound and meaning together in a mental image.
  • ✓
Konglish flags. Words borrowed from English (or other European languages) are flagged as such rather than forcing a mnemonic.
  • ✓
Hanja-aware. Sino-Korean words use hanja mnemonics so they shared between words with the same Chinese character root, reducing the number of mnemonics you need to learn and helping you understand future words intuitively.
  • ✓
Add your own. Our built-in mnemonics not clicking for you? Write your own personal one. The app remembers.

I've been using the website for about 1.5–2 months now and loving it. I'm really excited to see this develop further because there is a lack of Korean resources online compared to other languages.

Frequently asked

The honest FAQs.

Is the app actually free?
Yes. The placement test, Hangul, and lessons for your first 250 words plus 1,000 reviews are free — no credit card required. A subscription lets you continue vocabulary lessons and reviews beyond those limits. Features such as custom mnemonics are available to free users too.
Why don't you show romanization?
Two reasons. (1) Korean romanization is awful and not representative of the actual pronunciation. (2) Hangul is undisputedly the easiest writing system in the world and you can literally start reading it in 20 minutes (our Quick-Start does exactly that).
I don't know any Korean. Where do I start?
Go ahead and click get started and the app will help you sign up and hop straight into the Hangul Quick-Start. About 20 minutes later you can read the alphabet enough to begin vocabulary lessons.
What if I've already studied Korean for a while?
Choose the placement test at the end of the intake quiz. It's adaptive — harder as you nail questions, easier as you miss them — and drops you in around the level you actually know. If you see words you already know popping up in your lessons and reviews just mark them as burned.
How is this different from Anki / Duolingo?
This is built from the ground up for Korean. Duolingo gamifies and skips the part where you actually learn anything. Anki is an empty box you have to fill yourself, and the shared Korean decks are often outdated. We give you a curated 8,000-word path with native-speaker audio, mnemonics, and a growing collection of example sentences — scheduled by FSRS, the same algorithm Anki power users install by hand, except ours ships fitted on our learners' review data and then refits to your memory automatically.
Is the review scheduling AI?
It's machine learning, done properly. The scheduler is FSRS — an open, published memory model — with parameters fitted on real review data from our learners, then refit to your memory specifically once you've logged enough reviews. It predicts when you'll forget each word and schedules the review just before. No LLM deciding your study plan, no black box: 21 numbers we can show you.
Do you cover grammar too?
The app currently includes a searchable grammar reference for particles, conjugations, and other common patterns. You will also meet grammar in the example sentences available for many words. Full grammar lessons are coming soon.
Are iOS and Android apps coming soon?
Yes — iOS and Android apps are coming soon. Until then, the web app works on phones and can be added to your home screen.
Found a bug, or want a feature?
Tell us. Use the feedback button at the bottom of any page, or bring it to the Discord — that's where announcements land and where most feature requests start. Subscribers get priority support.
